In this blog, you will be learning about the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program.
You might have often heard people talking about Canada and would have seen many people whose dream destination to settle down in Canada. Why is it so?
The diversity & the huge opportunities in Canada is the major reason for people to get attracted to it.
Each year, more than 200,000 immigrants are allowed to enter the country, the immigration policies are geared accordingly.
However, these factors imply that IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) would experience delays in processing applications.
This can be disappointing and frustrating to the applicants who wish to immigrate as earlier as possible.
In order to offer assistance in processing the backlog, the federal government, together with the provinces & territories, created a Provincial Nominee Program.
This lets the provinces to target specific work skills and education according to its need. The applicants who satisfy the criteria of the PNP are nominated by the territory or province for permanent residency.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program is the PNP of Alberta.
Now, let me tell you some unique aspects of AINP.
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program is created to attract semi-skilled and skilled workers who hold a valid work permit.
The applicants are not required to pay a fee to apply for AINP, however, applicants have to pay IRCC’s fees.
English or French language proficiency is required with test results from the past 2 years.
Applicants must have the intention to live & work permanently in Alberta.
At present, there are three active streams in the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program.
- Strategic Recruitment Stream
- Employer-Driven Stream
- Self-Employed Farmer Stream
Let us walk through each of these streams one by one.
Firstly, the Strategic Recruitment Stream;
The major benefit of this stream is that it lets temporary foreign workers apply without an employer’s support. There are three categories.
Compulsory and Optional Trades
If you possess a valid trade certificate in any one of the 49 designated trades, you would be able to apply under this Category.
Those individuals who are working in Alberta or who have worked for more than six months in the province in the last 2 years are eligible to apply.
Also, note that few individuals are exempted from this category. For example, an applicant who currently lives in another province, you cannot apply.
Engineering Occupations
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program maintains a list of engineering occupations it targets. If you are among the temporary foreign workers who worked in a designated engineering occupation in Alberta, you can apply through this category.
Post Graduate Worker
Individuals who hold a Post-Graduation Work Permit in Alberta, and are working full time, this category is a good option for them.
Please note that there is a list of ineligible occupations. You cannot apply to AINP under this category if the job you currently hold is on that list.
Secondly, Employer-Driven Stream;
In this stream, an individual applies to the Provincial Nominee Program along with the employer.
Under this stream also there are three categories.

Under this category, you have to graduate from a publicly funded college or post-secondary institution in Alberta.
In this category also there are occupations that are not eligible.
