For October 2022, Statistics Canada released its Labour Force Survey data. In general, the unemployment rate has improved from growth over May-September but is still constant with September at 5.2%.
Also, the manufacturing, construction, accommodation, and food services were in huge employment gains. At the same time, the employment rate was reduced in jobs such as wholesale, retail trade, and natural sources. Apart from that, most of the new jobs were within the private sector, which is the first time when the private sector has seen employment growth since March 2022.
Immigrants Can Easily Find The Employment
The 2021 census immigration data release exposed that 23% of Canada’s population is an immigrant. The survey also defined immigrants as persons who are or have ever been landed immigrants or permanent residents of Canada.
In addition, the statistics state that immigrants have been successful in finding employment and fulfilling Canada’s labor force gaps. Furthermore, over 62% of the refugees are aged 15 and employed in the right jobs. Also, it was discovered that immigrants who arrived in Canada over the past five years had a 70.7% employment rate, which is a higher rate when compared to October 2019, pre-pandemic.
Most New Occupations Are Full-Time
The employment improvement in October was exclusively seen in full-time work (there were reductions in part-time employment, but full-time employment gains balanced the whole losses). There were 119,000 full-time job vacancies filled, improving the full-time employment rate by 3% over October 2021.
The part-time employment rate has remained steady, but there has been a change as, over the last 12 months, men have been more able to find full-time jobs than women, facing a 3.9% growth rate while the growth is at 1.9% for women.
Apart from that, since last October The rate of women with part-time employment has increased by 5.7%. Employment rises for both genders occurred primarily in the main working age group of 25-54 years old. However, between September and October this year, men of core working age increased fairly more full-time work at 0.7% for men and 0.4% for women. As well, young women aged 15-24 have gotten a reduction in their employment rate, down 1.7% from September and landing at an overall 10.5% unemployment rate.
Increases For Top 25% Of Wage Employees
Since October 2021, salaries in overall sectors have averaged 5.6%. The report also says that six in ten workers who had been with their company for a minimum of 12 months had received a promotion over the last year. The study found that 64.3% of workers with salaries over $40 per hour had gotten increments but only 50% of staff got a raise if they made less than $20.
The least employees’ percentage who had received a raise worked in agriculture, at 47.2%, and accommodation and food services at 49.7%. These are two trades that usually have hourly salaries below the countrywide average. Moreover, 53.6% of those working in healthcare and social services got a raise. Income growth in this division has been slow, increasing 0.9% year-over-year.
Employment Is High In Six Provinces
Here are the six provinces where the newest employment occurred:
- Ontario,
- Quebec,
- Prince Edward Island,
- Newfoundland and Labrador,
- Saskatchewan,
- Manitoba.
Ontario had the major employment growth with 43,000 job positions occupied, mostly in part-time work. The prime improvements were inside the housing and food divisions as well as the scientific, professional, and technical services sectors. The total unemployment rate is constant with September at 5.9%.
Quebec also exposed some noteworthy growth with 28,000 jobs filled. Complete gains were largely full-time and within insurance, real estate, rental, construction, finance, and leasing. The province also has an unemployment rate of 4.1%.
Prince Edward Island saw some important employment gains in the wake of Hurricane Fiona, which caused significant damage to the province. Hence, the employment was amplified by 4,300 positions.
Hybrid Positions Are Still Essential
The Canada statistics study found that 1.7 million Canadians are working in a hybrid position. It means they divided their work week with some time in the office and one time remotely from home. Hybrid preparations have improved between January and October.
The real estate, rental, finance, insurance, and leasing sector have a huge number of hybrid jobs, up to 21.7%. As well, approximately 16% of public administration and 17.9% of scientific, professional, and technical services are also hybrid job positions.
