The skilled regional (provisional) visa is a temporary visa for skilled workers who wish to live and work in provincial Australia. This is also known as the subclass 489 visa.
What You Can Do With This Visa?
Read the below lines to know the things you can do with the subclass 489 visa.
Candidates Chosen By A State Or Territory Government Agency
If a State or Territory government agency nominated you for the skilled regional visa, and your visa was approved before 16 November 2019, you should live, work and study only in a provincial and low population growth urban area. This applies to members of your family unit who are also visa holders.
If your subclass 489 visa was granted on or after 16 November 2019, you will need to live, work and study in a designated regional area. As well, your nomination must not be reserved or you will not be approved for the visa.
Candidates Sponsored By A Suitable Relative
If eligible relative sponsors you for the skilled regional visa, then you have to live, work and study only in Australia’s specified area, even if your visa was permitted after 16th November 2019. This applies to members of your family unit who are also holders of the visa.
This postcode list is different from the chosen provincial area postcode list that applies to regional visas from 16 November 2019. The Minister should also accept your sponsorship or you will not be approved for the visa.
