The number of immigrants announced by the Quebec government is high compared to the past two years’ immigrant plan. The governing party of Quebec, Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), decreased 20% of the admission target previously to enhance the selection and language establishment for newcomers to Quebec. Hence, during this time, the Quebec government made a significant investment to improve its integration and francization of new permanent residents. Quebec aims to admit around 49,500-52,500 immigrants in all categories like economic immigration programs, Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP), and Québec experience program (PEQ) in 2022 .
Among 52,500 admissions, 33,900 were from the economy stream. Of which, 28,800 are skilled workers category, and 4,300 are entrepreneurs, investors, and self-employed stream. 18,600 admissions are expected through the refugees, family reunification, and other various programs. It is also stated that there will be an additional 18,000 immigration admission to reach the admission levels that were not met in 2020 due to COVID-19.
