The province sent invitations to more than 130 eligible applicants.
Prince Edward Island has sent out 136 invitations under the PEI Provincial Nomination Program (PEI PNP). The draw was place on June 16th.
A total of 127 invitations were sent out under the Labour and Express Entry programs. Nine invitations were issued under the PEI Business Influences and Work Permits program with a minimum score of 65. The total number of invitations for this draw is down from the last draw on May 20, when 153 invitations were issued.
PEI schedules its provincial nomination drawings one year in advance, with drawings typically held once a month. Since July 2021, the PEI PNP has issued 1,174 invitations, with 826 of them issued in 2022.
The Provincial Nominee Program
With the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, each of Canada’s provinces and territories runs its own PNP. While provincial nomination is not the same as permanent residency, it can help you get permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
There are over 80 PNP programs in Canada through which potential applicants can obtain permanent residency. This can be done by applying directly to the province or through an Express Entry profile.
Candidates with Express Entry profiles may also earn a provincial nomination, which will add 600 points to their CRS score. This almost ensures the candidate receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from IRCC.
PEI PNP Express Entry Category.
Applicants seeking a provincial nomination in the PEI Express Entry category must also be eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Applicants with Express Entry profiles must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile to the PEI PNP. The EOI profile is used to notify the provincial government that you would like to be considered for nomination. Applicants also receive a score based on a provincial point system. Applicants who achieve the highest score will likely receive an invitation to participate in the monthly lottery.
Labor Impact Category
The Labor Impact category acts as the basis for the nomination, regardless of Express Entry. The category is divided into three pathways. Regardless of which of these pathways a candidate applies for, they must have a valid job offer in PEI and the support of their employer.
Skilled Worker Stream
Applicants for this category must either be currently working in PEI or have a job offer from an employer in PEI. They need experience in a skilled occupation that falls under National Occupational Classification (NOC) qualification code 0, A, or B, and a post-secondary degree or diploma.
Critical Worker Stream
This category is for applicants whose work experience falls under NOC codes C or D. A minimum of two years of work experience is required.
International graduates
This category is for graduates of recognized accredited educational institutions in Prince Edward Island (e.g. universities and colleges). Eligible applicants are working in a skilled occupation in their field of study.
Business Impact Category
The Business Impact category is for applicants who wish to start, own and operate a business in PEI.
To receive an invitation under PEI’s Business Impact Category, you must apply through the Work Permit Stream. In this category, applicants are expected to start working in Canada and become familiar with the business while obtaining a work permit. They must be willing to live in PEI and actively manage the business. If the entrepreneur meets the PEI criteria while obtaining a work permit, they may be eligible for nomination by the province to support a permanent residency application to the IRCC.
