Recently, the Government of Canada announced that they are “restarting the biometrics collection” for people applying for temporary residence (TR) from within Canada.
This recommencement comes more than 31 months after Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) – on July 15, 2020 – announced a temporary exemption policy (due to the COVID-19 pandemic closures and service troubles) on biometrics submissions for TR applicants applying from inside Canada.
This change affects all persons applying for temporary residence, including five candidate groups that were known openly in IRCC’s press release:
- People applying for a work or study permit
- People applying for a temporary resident permit
- Persons applying for a visitor visa
- People applying to restore their status as a student, visitor, or worker
Biometrics Submission
People who have to submit their biometrics as part of a TR application should confirm they pay the biometrics fee during the application submission procedure. After that, the candidates will get a biometric instruction letter via email and find details on submitting biometrics online.
Also, there are more than 70 Service Canada Centre collection sites across the nation where TR candidates can submit their biometrics, but biometrics collection sites are run by appointment only.
