News on Canada immigration: Prince Edward Island held its biggest provincial draw of 2022, inviting 165 talented workers and entrepreneurs to submit applications.
Invitations were distributed on July 21 through the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) streams for Business Impact, Express Entry, and Labor Impact.
138 invitations were sent to candidates for the Labour Impact and Express Entry programmes, but just 27 were sent to applicants for the Business Impact programme.
Candidates for the Business Impact programme needed at least 60 points.

Express Entry Stream for Prince Edward Island
In order to determine candidates for a provincial nomination in PEI’s Express Entry category, candidates must already be in the federal Express Entry Pool.
Such a nomination increases a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by 600 points and essentially ensures that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for immigration to Canada.
Two routes to Canadian permanent residency are available under the PEI Express Entry Category, one for those with a work offer and one for those without.
Impact on the Prince Edward Island labour market Category
1) Immigration of skilled workers
This employer-driven measure allows skilled workers with an offer of employment in PEI to be nominated for Canadian permanent residency if they meet the following criteria:
– A full-time offer of employment from a company in prince Edward island in a national occupational classification (NOC) occupation at skill level “0”, “a” or “b”;
– A minimum of 14 years of formal education and completion of postsecondary education;
– From 21 to 55 years old;
– A recent period of full-time employment of at least 2 years;
– Sufficient language skills in English or french to fill the position offered;
– Sufficient financial resources to settle;
– Exhibited a desire to relocate to Prince Edward Island.
2) Critical Worker Stream
This category, which is open to foreign workers currently residing in PEI and employed in certain critical demand occupations, is intended to address labour shortages. Principal requirements for nomination are:
a full-time job offer in one of the following professions from a Prince Edward Island company:
– Truck driver;
– Customer service representative;
– Laborers;
– A waiter working in the food & beverage industry;
– Room attendant.
– Six months of employment with the Prince Edward Island-based employer;
– An active, valid work visa for Canada;
– A minimum of 12 years of formal education and a high school diploma;
– From 21 to 55 years old;
– A minimum of two recent years of full-time employment;
– Fundamental proficiency in either the English or French language; enough settlement funds;
– Exhibited a desire to relocate to Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island Business Impact Category
Work Permit Stream
Individuals applying under the P.E.I. Work Permit Stream must obtain a Canadian work permit and work in a business on P.E.I. for a specified period of time as outlined in a performance agreement.
Upon completion of the performance agreement, the applicant must invest at least $150,000 in the business and commit to running the business from P.E.I. on a daily basis.
Previously, direct business opportunities existed in Prince Edward Island for permanent residents but were closed in September 2018 due to immigration fraud concerns.
