Canada has a rise of more than 28% in permanent residents (PR) in January 2024 when compared to the previous month (December 2023). It’s a great start for 2024 and increases the possibility of admitting more immigrants to the country. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) latest data, the number of new permanent residents admitted to Canada immigration in January of this year increased from 37,240 in December to 47,660.
While it signifies a good result for January 2024, there were 6.4% fewer new permanent residents in Canada every month than there were in the same month last year, which was 50,945 in total. 571,920 new Canadian PRs would join the country in 2024 if the immigration rate for the remainder of the year was anticipated to be the same as that of January.
That would signify a 21.3% increase over the record-breaking 471,550 new PRs that entered Canada in 2023. If the January immigration level for each month in Canada remains at its present percentage, it would also result in 17.9% more new PRs than the 485,000 new PRs goal outlined in Ottawa’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2023–2025.
The following Economics programs made up a surprising 60.5% of all new PRs who arrived in Ontario in January 2024.
- Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
- Agri-Food Immigration Pilot (AFIP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Caregiver programs
- Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)
- Start-Up Visa (SUV) and Self-Employed Persons (SEP) programs
- Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident Pathway
Some of the programs included the above helped around 13,265 new PRs to enter the Ontario province in January 2024.
