In the recent express entry draw that is held on 3rd August 2022, Canada has invited around 2,000 candidates to apply for permanent residency. This is one of Canada’s most well-known immigration pathways for skilled newcomers.
The candidates who had a minimum of 533 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) were issued invitations. Also, there were no programs specified for this draw. Thus, it means the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) were eligible to be invited for the express entry draw.
This express entry draw has nine points as the minimum CRS requirement is lower than the previous draw that was conducted on 20th, July. In addition, in this draw, more than 250 candidates received invitations when compared to the previous draw when 1750 candidates got ITA (Invitation to Apply).
As all-program draws were carried out on July 6, 5,250 Express Entry candidates have received ITAs. Immigration, for over 18 months, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had paused these draws and invited the candidates qualified for permanent residence under the CEC or the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) alone. As well, through three express entries in 2022; Canada plans to welcome 55,900 permanent residents. Moreover, this number will significantly rise to 111,500 by the end of 2024.
Expired PGWP Holders Will Be Now Able To Apply For A New Open Work Permit
Thousands of Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holders have found their work permit status to end, because of a pause in invitations to Express Entry CEC candidates between September 2021 and July 2022. As the CEC invitations are absent, they were not able to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit when waiting for IRCC their permanent residence submission. The IRCC announced special measures yesterday that will allow expired PGWP holders to extend their open work permit status by an extra 18 months. This evaluation aims to help these candidates change over to the permanent residence and will permit them to continue working while they wait.
Distance Learning Now Temporarily Eligible For Express Entry
Several international students have been forced to complete their education online due to the pandemic restrictions over the past two years. In response, IRCC has just announced that learning qualifications for students who completed Canadian educational programs online between March 2020 and August 2022 will now be able to use these credentials as part of their overall CRS score. So, these students can use education finished online as part of their education qualifications when uploading their online Express Entry profile.
As pandemic limitations are released around the world, this measure will only be short-term. Usually, if 50% of the education program was completed through distance learning, students would not be qualified for CRS points for educational qualifications. Though, if you earned a Canadian diploma, degree or certificate and completed any part of your program of study or training between March 2020 and August 2022, you’re now eligible for Canadian educational credential points if you completed your program completely through distance learning, from outside Canada; or through part-time studies.
Candidates who are already in the Express Entry pool may have previously received a letter from IRCC recommending that they should update their education information in their online profile. Also, there are three new questions in the education history section based on the letter. As well, that must be answered or candidates’ risk contains a lower CRS score.
The questions ask how much you study, a study in Canada and what full-time studying the candidate completed getting the permit. Also, the IRCC advised candidates to update their profile by August 2 to make sure they maintained their CRS score and stay eligible in the present draw, when the letter was released.
What Is Express Entry?
For three Canadian immigration programs the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), the Express Entry is the application management system. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates in the Express Entry pool are already eligible for a minimum of one of these programs.
To rank candidates’ profiles, typically the Express Entry uses a points-based system, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The top-scoring candidates get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and can then apply for permanent residency.
An IRCC officer reviews the application and decides on it after the candidate applied. The officer will also ask for biometrics and may request more documents or set up an interview.
The applicant will get a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) once it’s approved. Afterwards, the last step is to finish the landing process and become a Canadian permanent resident officially.
