Canada’s immigration and work permit programs will start using the new NOC (National Occupational Classification) from November 16th, 2022. Therefore, all programs including federal, provincial, and work permit candidates have to enter a different code to categorize their profession.
Instead of a new NOC 2021, the applicants who applied before 16th November have not to worry as their applications would be evaluated under the previous NOC 2016.
Individuals who have a profile in the express entry pool would have to update it with a new code. Because the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, and Express Entry-linked PNP streams will all use the new system.
The NOC 2021 arrival also means more professions will be added to the in-demand jobs list, opening the door to more hopefuls under these programs. A ministerial note issued in late February shows jobs including orderlies, truck and bus drivers, teaching assistants, and dental assistants are to be included under Express Entry.
16 Jobs That Added To In-Demand List Under NOC 2021
The professions being added are mentioned below:
- Payroll managers;
- Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants;
- Nurse assistants, attendants, and patient service associates;
- Pharmacy technical aids and pharmacy aides;
- Elementary and secondary school teacher subordinates;
- Sheriffs and bailiffs;
- Correctional service officers;
- By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers;
- Estheticians, electrologists, and related professions;
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers;
- Pest controllers and fumigators;
- Other repairers and servicers;
- Transport truck drivers;
- Bus drivers, subway operators, and other transit operators;
- Heavy equipment operators, and;
- Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
Three other professions that are eligible for Express Entry under NOC 2016, though, are being dropped under the NOC 2021. Those jobs are:
- Other performers;
- Program leaders and instructors in recreation, sport, and fitness;
- Tailors, dressmakers, furriers, and milliners.
The NOC 2021 changeover shows that immigration and work permit claimants have to search for their profession under the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) 2021 list on the website. In addition, the IRCC is moving from using a four-digit code to a five-digit code.
As well, with the new five-digit code, the NOC 2021 breaks down the skill level of each profession into six categories from the current four to better reflect the TEER level of every job. These TEER categories in the re-jigged NOC replace the previous level of skills.
Also, the new NOC will rank occupational groups based on the below hierarchical level consisting of:
- The broad occupation category;
- Major groups;
- Sub-major groups;
- Minor groups;
- Unit groups
Overseas nationals looking for their NOC code for occupation only have to go to the NOC website search page and search using their job title. After choosing the nearby match on the list that is created, it is significant to make sure the main responsibilities listed match those of the profession.
When those duties don’t match up, users are recommended to use a different job title with responsibilities that more closely match theirs.
After Consultation Process, NOC Undergoes Main Modification Every Decade
IRCC uses a nationally known and standardized system to evaluate the candidate’s work experience for immigration. As well, choosing the right NOC code is one of the most important parts of the immigration application.
With the renovation to the NOC, all applications submitted once the new system comes into place will need the candidate to set in the proper – and new – five-digit NOC code.
Moreover, Statistics Canada mentioned on its website that every 10 years, the (NOC) undertakes a key organizational revision whereby the current occupational groups are reviewed along with input collected from numerous relevant investors through a consultation procedure.
In addition, every Canadian territory and province uses the NOC to find in-demand jobs that have to be filled by immigration programs.
