Canada is investing $1.1 million into the Racialized Newcomer Women Pilot (RNWP) program at the Vancouver YWCA over two years to support minority, immigrant women get work in the information technology (IT) sector.
As the government claimed racialized newcomer women face noteworthy challenges in entering the labor force, they prefer to invest in them. Also, this program is known as Tech Connect.
Moreover, organizations are sponsored to deliver programs to report the perceived barriers faced by racialized newcomer women, under the RNWP, which had previously received a pledge a year ago of more than $15 million over two years opening in 2021. Those alleged barriers include supposed gender and race-based judgment, unbalanced employment, and lack of reasonable childcare.
Likewise, Tech Connect aids make racialized newcomer women in the Greater Vancouver Area who are internationally-trained specialists with IT backgrounds. It connects them with expert networks and training that will aid them to understand the extraordinary office culture in Canada’s IT division and to find work connected to their education, skills, and experience more swiftly and easily.
The RNWP was designed to help the labor market access and racialized newcomer women’s advancement through work assignments, adviser, and women-only employment counseling. Extending funding to programs like Tech Connect reveals that the Government of Canada remains dedicated to helping racialized newcomer women to find meaningful work in Canada and their career development.
COVID-19 greatly worsened current labor market obstacles and made new challenges for racialized newcomer women. January to June 2021 Labour Force Survey statistics show that an important unemployment opening continues between current immigrant women and Canadian-born women (15.2% versus 8.0%).
Funding for projects being prolonged will be provided up till 31st March 2025.
