The new express entry draw was conducted on 12th, October 2022. Also, since they resumed in July, it was the eighth all-program draw. As well, IRCC issued invitations to 4,250 applicants with 500 CRS scores. Further, claimants were qualified to obtain invitations from the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), all programs that operate under the Express Entry system.
For more than 18 months starting in December 2020, Express Entry all-program draws were stopped. Only applicants from the CEC or Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were issued invitations to apply (ITAs) in the pause. Furthermore, the draws were paused due to the application backlog caused by COVID-19-related travel limitations. In September 2021, IRCC also stopped draws for the CEC.
The recent draw is a lower CRS score extension. Lessening the CRS score raises the number of applicants who are qualified to obtain ITAs through Express Entry. This has been the trend since draws restarted on July 6. The score for that draw was 557 and for the first five draws, reduced by eight or nine points all the time. The two latest draws on September 14 and 28 saw lesser reductions of six points.
New Immigration Levels Plan Will Be Expected Soon
As a part of the Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024, IRCC plans to hit its goal of approximately 432,000 new permanent residents. In addition, every year, it issues a new plan year that summarizes the number of immigrants Canada hopes to welcome over the upcoming three years and additionally breaks it down into the immigration class and their programs. For 2022, through Express Entry, the Immigration Levels Plan aims for 55,900 new permanent residents. So far, between January and August 31, Canada has acknowledged, through Express Entry programs, just over 28,000 new permanent residents. Apart from that, by November 1 this year, the new Immigration Levels Plan is expected to be announced.
Physicians Can Now Apply For Express Entry
To apply for Express Entry programs, Canada has also removed some of the blocks that stop physicians now living and working in Canada as temporary residents.
Physicians were not qualified as typically Canada’s medical system works on a “fee-for-service” model, which is different from a traditional employer/ employee bond. Thus, it means, physicians are considered self-employed, in a technical sense. Self-employed work experience obtained within Canada is not qualified to be included as an Express Entry application.
Being self-employed on its own does not render a claimant disqualified. If an applicant has a minimum of one year of work experience overseas, or as a worker in Canada, they may yet be eligible for an Express Entry program.
Expected Changes In Express Entry
The exclusion for physicians is one of the primary changes to Express Entry that can be expected to remain in 2023. Moreover, Bill C-19 got Royal Assent in Parliament in June and will give IRCC extra power to aim Express Entry applicants based on precise work experience, education, or language skills, rather than the present system of issuing ITAs to an extensive range of claimants only on their CRS scores.
Express Entry System
Express Entry is a management system of application for three Canadian immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) as well as the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). In addition, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants in the Express Entry pool are already suitable for a minimum of one of these programs.
Moreover, CRS is a points-based system used by Express Entry to rank candidates’ profiles. Further, the top-scoring applicants obtain an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and can then apply for Canadian permanent residency.
Once the candidate applies for the express entry draw, an IRCC officer analyses the application and chooses if they are permitted. The officer will ask for biometrics and may set up an interview or request additional documents. Once this is done, if permitted, the applicant is now a permanent resident of Canada and also one step nearer to becoming a Canadian citizen.
