The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the Alberta province to recommend skilled candidates from the Government of Canada’s Express Entry pool. Eligible candidates may be selected for nomination through general draws or if they are highly skilled tech professionals under an Accelerated Tech pathway.
Alberta Express Entry Overview
You may get choose the Alberta Advantage Immigrant Program that is once known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), if you have sturdy ties to Alberta or if you can assist support the government’s financial growth and diversification priorities. If you are listed by a Canadian province, then you get 600 extra Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the following draw from the Express Entry nominee pool. International graduates who have done their studies in a Canadian post-secondary institution may also be considered under this stream.
General Express Entry Stream Selection Criteria
After getting a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter from the province, you can only apply to the Alberta Express Entry stream. Qualified applicants will be directly contacted by the AAIP throughout their Express Entry profile. For a provincial nomination under the Alberta Express Entry Stream, only those Express Entry candidates who receive an invitation or NOI letter from the AAIP can submit a submission. The AAIP will choose applicants according to the self-declared information in their Express Entry profile.
You may obtain an NOI if you:
- In the federal Express Entry pool; have an active Express Entry profile
- Have assured interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta;
- Are working in a job that supports Alberta’s financial growth and diversification; and
- Have a least CRS score of 300.
As well, the AAIP is more likely to choose you if you have one or more flexibility factors. You must:
- Have a legal Alberta job offer and/or work skill; and/or
- Be a graduate of an Alberta post-secondary institution with an applicable Alberta work offer; and/or
- Have Parent, child, brother and/or sister who is a permanent resident residing in Alberta, or a Canadian citizen living in Alberta.

Factors that may reduce the chances of getting an NOI letter include:
- An Express Entry profile that expires in three (3) months or less.
- Work in a job:
– On the list of High-wage and low-wage occupations in the region of Alberta set out on the online Government of Canada Refusal to Process a Labour Market Impact Assessment list;
– On the Alberta Opportunity Stream Ineligible Occupations list; or
– That has a high amount of submissions across all AAIP streams.
Accelerated Tech Pathway Selection Criteria
Applicants who are now working or have a work offer with an Alberta-based tech trade employer in an eligible technology occupation may be selected under the Accelerated Tech Pathway, a fast-track immigration program for skilled workers from across Canada and abroad.
To be considered for this stream, Express Entry candidates must:
– Have an active Express Entry profile with a least Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300;
– Have a full-time occupation (lowest 30 hours per week) or job offer in Alberta with an Alberta technology employer in a work;
– Complete an online form with the AAIP providing details about their Express Entry profile and their tech job in Alberta once they decide that they meet these evaluation criteria.
Once an applicant submits the online form, the AAIP then validates that they meet the lowest eligibility criteria to apply. Candidates who meet the lowest eligibility criteria will get an email from the AAIP inviting them to submit a full application to be considered for selection. Completed applications are placed in a pool of qualified applications. These submissions are then reviewed by the AAIP for provincial nomination.
