According to the new report, job vacancies and payroll employment remain high when unemployment sees reductions in September. Also, job openings were up by 3.8% in September, to 994,800 vacant positions in Canada across all divisions. The majority of these new job accompaniments were in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
The job opening rate (total number of vacant positions as a percentage of labor demand) increased to 5.7%., representing a constant need to fill positions amid worker lacks. Furthermore, seasonal factors tend to make September a month for large positions, even though when accounting for this job vacancies endure high in Canada.
Which Sectors Had The Huge Job Openings?
- A job is calculated as unoccupied by Statistics Canada, if:
- A particular position currently exists; and
- Work for this position could start in 30 days; and
- The company is actively looking for employees from outside the organization to fill the position
In this situation, certain economic sectors continued to have high job openings.
Health Care And Social Assistance
Health care and social assistance saw 159,50 job openings in September, up from a record-high number of vacancies in August. As well, year-over-year the division saw a rise of 25% in job vacancies, expected tied to the constant high demand for specialists in this sector, (including physicians, surgeons, doctors, nurses, etc.) in the rouse of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canada has taken steps to attract more experts in this division to settle in the country, even eliminating barriers to permanent residence (PR) for specialists in this sector, in a proposal to find labor shortages.
Accommodation and Food Services
A sector constantly looking for employment, accommodation, and food services saw 152,400 vacant positions in September, a rise of 12% from August.
While much of this vast increase can be accredited to periodic effects, a continued return to pre-pandemic commercial and social procedures has helped this business see growth in hiring, and employment; with hopeful signs for the future as vacancies and employment in the sector has continued high all year.
Retail Trade
Retail jobs saw a slight rise in job vacancies, with 117,300 vacant positions in September. The job opening rate was 5.5%, on balance with the national average across all divisions, and a good sign that this sector has a continued requirement for employees.
Professional Scientific And Technical Services
An extensive sector that includes lawful services, accounting, architectural and engineering, marketing, public relations, computer systems design, management consulting, and more; Professional scientific and technical services is another sector that has seen a reliable worker requirement.
At 61,900 job openings, September’s report was reflective of this, with the business having a job vacancy rate of 5% that again mirrors the country average, and is a good sign of continuing demand and hiring efforts here, in the forthcoming months.
Manufacturing
The only trade to see a constant decline in job openings was manufacturing, which was down to 76,000 available jobs in September; from a top of 92,100 just one month before.
While this could be taken as an indication of increased hiring in the space, this drop in job vacancies comes off the back of the fourth decline in Real Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) in the former five months. RGDP is an inflation-adjusted portion that imitates all goods and services value within an industry. In light of this, the decrease in job openings in this division is probably strongly knotted to a reduction in manufacturing as a complete.
Payroll Rises
Payroll employment is the number of workers getting pay or aids from their company.
While rises in these numbers can be due to some factors (for instance, hiring for old unoccupied positions), payroll employment can usually be understood as a singular marker of business good health, trade, or even economy.
In September, payroll employment increased nationally by 0.5%, with huge increases in Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta regions.
The sectors that saw the major growth in employment were:
- Healthcare and social assistance (+ 20,700 workers);
- Accommodation and food services (+ 8,400 workers);
- Retail Trade (+ 8,200 workers);
Taken with the situation that all of these businesses saw growths in job openings, these are very hopeful signs for experts in these three spaces. Associating this further with the RGDP of each industry in August; all three of the above sectors have faced:
- Increases in job openings (hiring activities);
- Increases in payroll workers (people hired); and
- Increases in the total worth of goods and services produced.
These continue to be hopeful signs as Canada moves out of pandemic rules, and towards pre-pandemic levels of financial output.
As Canada Experiences A Record Number Of Job Vacancies
Immigration remains to be at the front of facing labor shortages in Canada.
